Small Business Ideas You Can Plan For 2022

Almost everyone has a dream to start a business and a reputable brand. But very few succeed in that. Here are 10 small business ideas you can plan for 2022.

Some spend years talking about starting a business but do not dare to take the first step perhaps they worry a bigger investment is required. Then there are some who take the first step but fail badly because of poor planning or not sufficient information about the venture and industry.

In today’s digital age literally, anyone can start a small business, become a digital entrepreneur or begin to earn money on the Internet. All you need is the right business idea and background knowledge, a business website or blog, and the right drive and mindset.

We will focus primarily on small businesses (later, you may expand some of them into big groups) as such is easier to set up initially. We will also discuss online and offline businesses but will focus more on online business ideas since it is the new trend with many more affordable and implementable options even for beginners.

So, without further ado, let us start counting.

10 Small Business Ideas for 2022

1. Start a Real Estate Business

After the COVID-19 pandemic, we did not expect real estate to revive too soon. Interestingly it did. Right after the sharp steep in Q2, real estate reignited at full pace in Q3, and that trend is still in action. If you are a people person and want to make a good fortune from doing a small business, real estate could be your thing.

In today’s tech-savvy environment, everyone is online, and so are the home buyers. For that, you need a web presence. Get a website with updated and authentic home listings in your region and check whether you could list million-dollar properties as they will bring in big bucks. Look at this real estate broker in Mississauga, listing condos for sale in Mississauga and other regions, and his startup is doing well plus he does what he loves.

2. Start an Amazon FBA Business

We all know about Amazon – an American multinational eCommerce tech giant. Jeff Bezos founded Amazon from his garage back in 1994. It started as an online marketplace for books to later become a giant in selling other products, such as electronics, software, apparel, furniture, food, jewellery, and more.

The idea here is not to start an online store like Amazon but work with the company to start your business.

The things you see or buy from Amazon are not all owned or listed by Amazon. The company invites vendors to list their products and market them to the big world out there. One of the ways of selling your products on Amazon is called Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). It is how FBA works:

  • You send your product(s) to Amazon.
  • A customer buys your product from Amazon.
  • Amazon picks up the product from its warehouse and ships it to the customer.

The company also helps in managing your customers, helping your business to grow, and will handle returns for you.

FBA is just one type of small business idea you can plan for 2022. There are some more of them.

3. Start an Online Medical Supply Store

For quite a long time, we have only seen growth in the healthcare industry with the biotech niche, in particular, becoming increasingly prosperous. However, starting an online medical supply online store is a good first step in the door for your next small business idea.

Patients, medical professionals, and others are always on the lookout for some medical/healthcare product. You can sell face masks, gloves, bedpans, canes, exam kits, and more via your online medical store.

For more significant or innovative products, you may want to have a brick-and-mortar store. Buyers might feel more confident by physically visiting your store and then making the purchase.

4. Start Selling Baby Products

Babies are born every day around the globe. That gives another small business idea that you can plan now to start in 2022.

According to The NPD Group report, the US juvenile products industry witnessed a growth of 6.5% in 2020. It is a billion-dollar industry.

The report highlighted “safety” as the primary category for infants. This category witnessed sales of $587.5 million in 2020, which exceeded 2019 by 35%. Furniture for babies saw sales of $952.1 million in 2020 – a growth of 17% compared to the sales of 2019.

The toys industry is also a good venture to start in 2022. According to some reports, the sector observed growth in sales of 16% in 2020 compared to the sales of 2019.

Both online and offline stores for baby products would help you grow your business.

5. Start a Unique Tea Shop

Tea is trendy in some parts of the world, including India, Turkey, Pakistan, the UAE, and Bangladesh. If you live in any of these countries, you will back my statement. For others, it could be a risky business idea to start. But if you could broaden your vision and look for people’s interest in tea, you might find a large group of people with this common interest.

Back in 2016, when I was in the UAE, I went to this Indian tea cafe FiLLi with a friend. I loved the tea there. Besides tea, they now have some other snacks and beverages to offer.

Start this food business if you like it. You may initially start with a takeaway spot to later become a full-sized dine-in restaurant or café. Alternatively, you could focus on the eco niche and sell only organic tea leaves from certified tea farms that also pay their staff adequate salaries.

6. Start a Food Business

If tea is not your thing, food must be. No one can say NO to food. Even during the COVID-19 lockdowns, we all ordered something delicious from a takeaway restaurant to give our taste buds that lost flavour of outside food. Takeaway food is almost irresistible now.

There are plenty of food-related business ideas you can start in the upcoming year. You can have a brick-and-mortar restaurant/cafe, food truck, or virtual kitchen.

To start a new food business, you must market and brand your business first. You can divide marketing for your food business into two primary levels: (1) Pre-inauguration marketing and (2) post-inauguration marketing. While pre-inauguration is essential, the latter is far more critical.

Think why people would come to you without testing your food. So, when you start your food business, offer free food to your future dinners. It is the time that would decide if you can run a good food business or not.

7. Start an Online Tutoring Business

After last year’s pandemic, not only working people shifted to the work from home idea, but children also had to. In some regions, schools were fully operational. While in other areas, children continue to attend online classes.

Taking advantage of this recent development and the advances in EdTech, you may think of starting your online tutoring business. Identify your expertise and go for marketing your educational online services using the internet.

If you want to grow your online tutoring business, do not assess it as a business. Consider teaching a passion. Only then could you start well and would succeed here.

8. Start a Home Improvement Business

A home improvement business is linked with real estate business ideas – if you have a home, you can renovate or remodel it. It is a billion-dollar industry.

People have always been looking to uplift their home’s value by giving a new look. But after last year, we have seen a significant uprise in this industry. People have been remodelling, renovating, or redecorating their homes from inside and outside.

Examples of home improvement ideas can include fixing minor issues to keep everything rolling, doing small tasks to brighten up homes, home staging for top-dollar selling, etc.

9. Start an Online Grocery Store

If you believe this domain is highly saturated and there is no room for new entrants, then think again. Even though there are big online stores like Amazon, Grocery Gateway, and Real Canadian Superstore, out there you can still compete with such giants.

A unique idea is always in demand. Create a plan with the following main steps:

  • Choose a specific type of food to cater to (like dairy or vegan products).
  • Talk to local food providers if they want to work with you.
  • Plan benefits for vendors and buyers.
  • Create a grocery app.
  • Maintain a high-end customer support facility, so your buyers do not leave you.
  • Reach your potential first and then explore new areas.

10. Start a Digital Marketing Agency

Starting a digital marketing agency is not a new idea. People have been doing it since digital media came into existence, but its demand has increased with a sudden jump in online traffic.

Before starting a digital marketing agency, learn all about it (not just the basics). Digital marketing is a vast field. We have search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing (SMM), content writing, and more.

Mastering all these skills is challenging and you can get started with free digital marketing online courses. Get going with one digital skill when you are settling in and gradually expand your expertise and services.

There are tons of small business ideas you can plan for 2022 that do not require a lot of experience or huge investments upfront. This list hopefully gives you an idea of which business you may start with little investment and effort that lies within your comfort zone. It is recommended that you delve into a niche that you are more familiar with and care about. Finally, check Google (or an official business search tool) for your chosen business name; the fewer similar results you find, the better. Now you must find your passion and start without further delays. All the best success with your start-up!
